This is the art piece I made for the exhibition held in Taipei Gallery of Contemporary Arts in Taiwan in March, 2006. Anything about Taiwan has been sensitive in Chinese politics. The opposition parties’ ice breaking visit of the Mainland last year has opened a new window for the political atmosphere in both sides of the Strait. At the same time, the issue concerning Mainland’s offer to give a pair of pandas to Taiwan has been politicalized infinitely, which reflects one aspect of political view of Chinese people. Certainly, Panda is innocent here. So by using the cold-looking crystal and porcelain, I hope to demonstrate how mentally fragile and flimsy people are, and how they could blindly reject something simply because of fear.
